SHARE PROJECT

Why should there be hunger and deprivation in any land, in any city, at any table, when man has the resources and the scientific know-how to provide all mankind with the basic necessities of life? There is no deficit in human resources. The deficit is in human will.
— Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

820 million

People suffer from hunger and food insecurity

1 in 9

People go to bed hungry each night

1 Billion tons

Of food that is produced is never eaten and is wasted

Epicure will support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 of Zero Hunger (SDG 2) through its SHARE Project initiative. SDG 2 is one of 17 Global Goals and calls for action to - End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.

More Food for More People with Less Spoilage and Waste.  Many of the 820 million people suffering from hunger and food insecurity will not have the means to preserve or even cook food. We must think creatively and use the available technologies to provide real and actionable help.

The SHARE Project will accept monetary and food donations from our partners and suppliers. We will prepare and process healthy and nutritious food using freeze drying technology to preserve the nutrients, the flavor, aroma, texture, and appearance. We will package this food in vacuum sealed pouches where the food will remain until eaten. The shelf life of food using this technology is between two to twenty-five years.  We will donate this food to the food insecure population through entities that are already working with people in need of proper nutrition.

Freeze Drying Process

When water is added, the food is restored to 80% - 100% of its original consistency.
